Welcome to the home page of
the improvising school
new directions in learning, creativity and leadership
We all live in a rapidly changing and complex world. In order to succeed and thrive in this environment we need to be adaptable and innovative. Learning has become a lifelong activity and, whatever we do, we all need to learn how to improvise.
the Improvising School was created by Nick Sorensen in April 2003 with the following four aims:
- To undertake research into the theory and practice of improvisation: in the arts and everyday life
- To develop the practice of improvisation in music and nurturing an appreciation of improvised music
- To apply the theory and practice of improvisation in schools in order to develop learning, creativity and leadership;
- To use improvisation as a medium for training and professional development in business and industry
These aims are realised through:
- education consultancy
- music performance
- music workshops
- writing
- training courses for business and industry
Further information about the improvising school can be found on this web site.
